Services – Stone Cleaning and Protection

The Marble Clinic is an industry expert in the cleaning and sealing of stone surfaces; our protection service drastically prolongs the life of all marble, granite and limestone surfaces. Our technicians are trained to thorough clean and prepare all stone surfaces for their respective sealer, then evenly apply the sealant with the most effective techniques. Stone care starts with sealing your new floor tiles or countertops with the proper sealant. Sealers protect the porous stone against everyday dirt, spills and stains – however you must still be cautious of liquids which contain high levels of acidity such as vinegar and orange juice.

Let us seal your stone to avoid this!

For the majority of stone types, such as marble, granite, limestone or porcelain, we recommend the use of a penetrating sealer – also known as penetrants or impregnators. These liquids are thin, allowing for penetration deep into the stone. Their purpose is to block contaminants from entering the substrate of the stone while at the same time allowing it to expel moisture. This allows the stone to breath, and in turn age as it naturally would. The penetrating sealers used at The Marble Clinic are of the highest industrial quality and contain a silicone base.

Materials such as slate or flamed granite differ in that colour enhancing silicone impregnators specially designed for textured materials are used. This line of sealers offer a high degree of protection that enhances the natural appearance of stone without gloss and protects it from water based stains and mineral deposits.

Depending on the level of wear and tear the area in question receives, we recommend sealing stone surfaces every three to five years – depending on maintenance and upkeep. Soft materials such as limestone and certain marbles should be sealed yearly if they are in areas which receive high amounts of traffic. If your natural stone countertops take extensive damage, be sure to ask us about our Nano-sealer – a revolutionary product which penetrates stone at a nano level, making absorption even more unlikely.
