Natural stone is extremely delicate, and can be damaged by dirt and debris tracked in from the outdoors. The use of harsh chemicals or acidic cooking substances can easily remove the finish of many stone surfaces. In order to restore these materials to their proper finish, technical skill and experience is required. Our staff is highly trained in the restoration processes and we believe over 30 years of experience has enabled us to perfect the techniques involved in this niche market; our customers have famously said “if The Marble Clinic can’t do it, no one can”. The restoration process of marble, granite and other materials consist of three main components: grinding, polishing or honing, and sealing. Marble grinding disks The grinding process is similar to concept of sanding wood. Depending on the degree of damage to the stone, refinishing with the corresponding diamond bit grinding disk begins. From this point the level of sanding gets finer until a smooth, unabrasive surface texture is acquired. Water is used in this process, and as a result all dust is eliminated. From here the stone is polished or honed – depending on customer request. Our refinishing compounds are of the highest quality and allow for a wide range of lustre levels. Once the desired lustre has been reached the stone is then thoroughly cleaned and sealed. To learn more of the sealing process you may click here. Contact us for a free estimate.
